Daily Practices – Week 1 – Day 4

THEME: The resurrection is more than an event, it’s a way of life.

GRACE: Lord, help me experience Your power in my daily life.

Settling in:

  • In a journal, note the day, time, and place you’re sitting.
  • Open with a few moments of silence. Rest, and breathe deeply.
  • Complete the following sentence in your journal: *Today, I feel ________________.
  • Read these words slowly (aloud or silently):

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. (Colossians 3:1-2, NIV)

  • Pause for a few moments of silence.

Practice:

  • Choose one of the following practices.

Option 1: Spiritual Friendship [5-10 minutes]

Note in Matthew 28:10 that Jesus instructs the disciples to “Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.” They are instructed not to go alone, but to find partners in the journey. In the same way, your Daily Practices over the next six weeks will be much more beneficial with a partner or two along the way.

With this in mind, open your journal and write the answer to these questions:

  1. Do you have any “brothers” or “sisters” in life’s journey? If so, who are they?
  2. Do you talk frequently with these people about your spiritual life, or your growth as a follower of Jesus? Why or why not?
  3. Take a moment and reach out to one of these friends, thanking them for their friendship, and asking how they are doing. This can be a quick text message, a phone call, or even a time you set up later in the day.
  4. Ask if they would be willing to be a partner with you during your 50-day journey through the Daily Practices, to check in with you from time to time for an update and some additional accountability.

Option 2: Spiritual Friendship* [10-30 minutes]

Note in Matthew 28:10 that Jesus instructs the disciples to “Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.” They are instructed not to go alone, but to find partners in the journey. In the same way, your Daily Practices over the next six weeks will be much more beneficial with a partner or two along the way.

Spend five minutes in silent prayer, asking God to bring to mind the names of your “Spiritual Friends,” those people who he has currently given you to walk alongside in your spiritual journey. Write these names in your journal.

Choose one friend, and reach out to them today via phone or face-to-face conversation. During your conversation, let this friend know you are working through daily practices for the Easter Season, and ask if they would be willing to partner with you during your 50-day journey through the Daily Practices. Ask if they would pray for you and check in with you from time to time for an update and some additional accountability.

  • Summary: Write a brief summary (five sentences or less) of what you discovered during your practice of spiritual friendship.
  • Closing Prayer: Lord, help me experience Your power in my daily life.
